Overview
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a branch of dentistry which not only deals with the regular teeth
related
problems but also much critical pathology of the jaws and facial region.It is considered as an
advanced
specialty in dentistry with rigorous training and has a regular interaction with medical specialties
like
neurosurgery, general medicine, orthopedics, oncology, plastic surgery etc, and as interklink with
medicine.
The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Anil Neerukonda Institute of Dental Dciences was
started
in the year 2013.The department was formed and developed with a patient centric philosophy, keeping in
view
the non availability of proper care for maxillofacial problems of the rural population in this part of
the
state.
Department of omfs deals with the following.
- Diagnosis and treating diseases of the teeth and their supporting soft and hard tissues.
- Surgical reconstruction of deficient bone structure in the jaws-tumor reconstruction
- Manage head and neck trauma and injuries to the face, jaws, mouth and teeth.
- Diagnosis and management of facial pain in association with department of anesthesia
- Diagnosis and treatment of oral cancer and other diseases in the maxillofacial region.
- Surgical corrective orthognathic jaw surgery to improve the function and appearance (prognathic
jaws,
cleft
lip and palate and other congenital defects).
- Traetment of infections,cysts and tumours of head and neck
- Diagnosis and surgical management of temporomanidibular joint disorders (ankylosis, subluxation
etc)
There is a separate isolation ward for infection cases. Advanced life support systems and
ventilators are
available in the operation theatres and ICU to handle critical cases.
The department has some of the best outpatient and inpatient treatment facilities in the entire
state of
ap,
with a special emphasis for patient care and satisfaction in association with the medical
fraternity.Minor
surgical procedures are performed on a day to day basis, most of them comprising of wisdom teeth
removal,
preprosthetic surgery and other minor procedures.The major portion of work done at the maxillofacial
centre
involves attending to trauma on regular basis a good number of tmj ankylosis has been treated at our
unit
since 2013. In association with the department of orthodontics, various orthognathic surgery cases are
being
performed with a multidisciplinary approach.
The department is working towards a cleft lip and palate unit for the benefit of patients. A
reasonable
number
of primary cleft lip and palate cases are operated at regular intervals.
The department has a fully equipped implantology centre to cater for patient needs. Most patients
have
benefitted by the wide range of treatment options from simple rehabilitation to advanced implantology
procedures like sinus grafting or ridge augmentation and full mouthrehabilitation, cortical implants.
The department works on a nonprofit making basis catering to the poor and needy patients with our
patient
centric philosophy. The department is supported by a “chairman’s grant”, to treat socioeconomically
deserving
patients.
This department trains young ug students in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and runs a 3yr mds program
in
OMFS.
This department has hosted some of the renowned surgeons and academicians during various continuing
dental
education programmes held at the college.
Faculty and PG students of this department supported by qualified ancillary staff work as a team with
a
patient centered approach motto delivering the best available treatment to our patients.
Highlights of the Department
Since February 13, 2020, a 20-bed oral and maxillofacial surgery department has been established at
Anil
Neerukonda Hospital. Start conducting case studies with the ophthalmology departments of all
departments and
regularly provide positions for graduate students in various medical careers. Collaborate with the
Rhinoplasty and Endoscopic Surgery Otorhinolaryngology Department with member of the oncology
committee of
the
anil neerukonda hospital. Interdisciplinary member of Traumatology. The fully equipped implant
department
offers basic and advanced implant surgery such as sinus lift, cheekbones and cortical implants.
